DENTAL IMPLANTS

What is Implant Dentistry?

Implant dentistry is fast being regarded as the optimal method of replacing any missing teeth. Dental implants have an implant post that is made from biocompatible titanium and which is inserted into the jawbone during a small surgical procedure. The implant post gradually bonds or osseo integrates with the jawbone, becoming strong enough to support a replacement tooth.

There are many different implant systems available, depending on the location of the tooth to be replaced and the quality of the jawbone. Dental implants may be utilised to restore single or multiple teeth and they are frequently used to secure loose or ill-fitting dentures or to replace them entirely with a fixed arch of teeth.

Is Implant Dentistry Safe?

The Dental Group Hampton works very closely with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who is very experienced in placing dental implants. Each procedure is meticulously planned using a number of diagnostic tests to determine the exact position for each implant. We can manage the entire treatment process, including any tooth removal and additional procedures that may be required such as bone grafts or sinus lifts. This close attention to detail helps ensure extremely high success rates for our implant dentistry procedures.

When Might I Need Implants?
It is preferable for us to maintain your natural teeth but if this isn’t possible then using surgically implanted titanium posts to support replacement teeth can be extremely successful. This procedure is very versatile and there are a number of treatment options available. Each implant case is individually assessed, particularly to ascertain the quantity and quality of bone available. We will need to take detailed radiographic images and a Cone Beam CT scan provides us with a 3-D dimensional image for more detailed analysis.

Often dental implants are used to replace single teeth and in this case it may be possible for the implant fixture to be placed at the time of tooth removal. A healing period is necessary before the new tooth which is normally a ceramic crown is attached to the implant fixture. More detailed planning is necessary for complex cases replacing multiple missing teeth. In these instances treatment options include fixed bridges or removable prostheses in the form of full or partial dentures.

Our implant team is highly skilled as we work closely with a Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Specialist Ceramic Laboratory to provide the very highest quality dentistry for our clients

Why Consider a Single Dental Implant?

It is important to replace even a single lost tooth and a dental implant may often be the best type of restoration. This is because a dental implant post prevents bone loss in the jaw and will ensure existing teeth cannot drift out of place. Unlike a bridge, there is no need to adjust the adjacent teeth to be crowned as the new tooth is entirely supported by the implant. A single implant tooth can look amazing, particularly when using the latest all-ceramic crowns so it is very difficult for anyone to see you have suffered tooth loss. This is because the emergent profile of the implant tooth, or the way it emerges from your gums will closely replicate a natural tooth.

Why Use Dental Implants to Replace Multiple Teeth?

Dental implants are ideal for restoring multiple teeth and relatively few implants may be required to support quite large dental bridges. While it is possible to replace each missing tooth with a separate dental implant, it isn’t normally necessary in situations where the missing teeth are adjacent to each other. Using implants in this way will help preserve the jawbone and will only have a positive impact on oral health. The procedure for using dental implants to replace multiple teeth is very similar to that for replacing single teeth. Our oral surgeon will work out the best insertion point for each implant, avoiding vital structures such as nerves and blood vessels while taking into consideration the function and aesthetics of the finished restoration.

Will My Dental Implants Look Natural?

Both single and multiple implant teeth can look very natural and enormous care is taken to ensure the finished restorations offer the correct amount of support to the cheeks and lips while maintaining the correct dimensions between the upper and lower jaws.
